about the author & organisation

The River Rangers is an environmental initiative dedicated to cleaning and restoring the Hooghly River, a distributary of the Ganges, in West Bengal, India. Since its inception in 2019, the project has engaged local communities, educational institutions, and NGOs in weekly clean-up drives and awareness campaigns. The initiative is facilitated by Enakshi Majumder, who has played a key role in organizing, managing volunteers, and ensuring the success of these sustainability efforts.

The River Rangers project was the brainchild of Lochie Burke and Pauline Laravoire, who envisioned a community-driven effort to combat river pollution. Since 2019, the initiative has mobilized volunteers, removed significant amounts of plastic and waste, and educated people on sustainable waste management, making a lasting environmental impact.
